Interviews
The entrance to the centre. So today we went to meet the SPARKZ group at ACCESS [AWWA Centre for Care, Education and Social Services].
I and some others like Dixon brought cameras, we'll post the pictures later.
This morning we took bus 70 from Yio Chu Kang MRT and walked abit more. After a quick breifing we did a round of self introduction: 5 members of SPARKZ were present. Small talk was pretty interesting, but things got better when we started playing some icebreakers: the people who lost 3 times had to do a forfeit. The games played should be something familiar to most AJCians: 007 and some other counting games.
Things were pretty even, with the four 'forfeited' being 2 of the AJ students and 2 of the SPARKZ members. The forfeits were 'simple' in a way, reach into a box and take out a small item. Of course the boxes had some interesting items inside as well, but thats where most people say the fun is.
Others will post at the end about what friendships they made.
After that we had a short musical showcase, in which AJcians were easily outclassed by the SPARKZ members. One can immediately hear their talent. One of the SPARKZ members, Gopinath, sang a song he wrote himself, which in simple terms took our breath away.
The lunch later consisted of DIY sandwiches. Since everyone's sandwich could have anything they wanted, we practically demolished the food. Leaving us with about half an hour of time to chitchat. The conversation 'naturally' moved to schoolwork. Memorable, the friendships made here will be.
Thus ended the day for most of us. For many, this will be a time to look back on when the actual preparation work for the concert in AJC begins.

A member of AJClass16/06 in an AJC classroom, discussing our SL project
Tomorrow would be the official start to AJC26/06 and 16/06’s Service Learning Project. We will be visiting AWWA to meet the SPARKZ group in person! I can’t say how excited we are. This afternoon some of us took some time out of our schedules to rehearse our combined ‘concert’ segment: 'Canon in D' sounded really nice, especially due to the fusion of western and eastern instruments.
This will be the start to the preparations for a concert in order to raise awareness about the youth with disabilities in Singapore and around the region. The concert itself would be on the 20th of March. From what we know, SPARKZ and YBL, the two groups performing, are very talented musicians with disabilites. Promises to be an enjoyable event.
So this is the beginning of our SL journey, and the beginning of this blog.
