Interviews
SPARKZ and AJC students listening to the briefing
In accordance to our weekly schedule of going straight down to the AWWA headquaters, today's session only served as a pleasant indicator of what's to be expected in subsequent sessions and the main project.
It began with a presentation by Kendrick of 16/06 who gave the sparkz members a brief overview of our project which is the Singapore-Indonesia concert. It was followed by a video clip which depicted scenes of the Indonesians playing instruments like drums and guitars. Next was another quick presentation by Li Rong of 26/06 which potrayed certain facts about the culture of Indonesia and its various festivals, costumes and dances.
This was followed by a more interactive acitivity whereby Jasline of 26/06 engaged in a teaching session with the sparkz members to teach them certain basic Indonesian language, which will be crucial in our communicating with them when they arrive in Singapore. Handouts were given to facilitate the learnings. Sparkz members then gave a brief introduction of themselves in simple Indonesian language.
The session ended with an interactive session with the people from class 16, 26 and the sparkz members and with Hui Qi, a sparkz member singing a raw version of the theme song for the concert.
Hopefully, through many more of these sessions, we would be able to interact more freely with the sparkz members and ensure that all of us will have fun during the course of the entire project. All the best.

A Rainy day in AJC
A '16/06 song' ? During today's SL meeting, Yuann Shan suggested that we include a '16/06' song on top of a collection of Singapore-themed songs, as gifts (CDs) for the YBL members. No doubt the idea is an interesting one, but our SL leaders pointed out that a lot effort has to be put in for us to arrange our own music and come up with the lyrics. Then there is the question of the feasibility of giving them music CDs since a number of them may not actually own a CD player back home. Alternatively, we can give them stationeries. Then again what if some of them are visually-impared? Would they be able to use the pens and paper? Ultimately, we need to be sensitive to their needs and feelings when deciding on presents for them.
As for the music workshop for the AWWA and YBL members to prepare them for their upcoming concert which will be held on 20 March this year, we hope to enlist the assistance of Mr Toh (our Economics tutor) and Genim's friends to conduct the training in singing and instrument playing skills respectively. As for the rehearsals, some concerns were raised about the lack of break between the time slots for dry run and actual concert on the day itself. With respect to this, more re-scheduling and planning have to be done. These 'extra work' aside, our class should be proud that in our planning process, we actually kept the welfare of the performers in mind. Therefore, SL is also about the discovery of the values that each of us holds.
